Surprise Country Number 38 - Uruguay

So Uruguay wasn´t originally on my list of planned countries to visit but hey with only a 60min boat ride between myself and Colonia del Sacramento (from Buenos Aires) and 16 weeks still in my South American adventures I couldn´t pass it up.

Boooja! This place is A-mazing. Colonia was a quiet town with cobblestone streets, chill atmosphere, great chiviati (steak sandwiches) and new friends from Australia, England and Germany. (Tanya, Middles, Kat, Daphne, Brooke and Andy).
have to prove I am here every once in a while
this one is for you Foxy... steak sandwich (yum)
Enjoyed the AC in the hostel and a wonder around this little gem on day one after arriving at 9am with my heavy pack and no idea where to go. Day two was spent catching up on my journal  since I feel the need to illustrate as much of my experience as possible and Roxy, Gia and I managed to accumulate many jokes worth including.
Daphne, Brooke, Middles, Tanya, Andy and Kat loving the old cars in Colonia
Random fair... Wish I could have taken a ride
By 4pm it was time to hop on the bus (free wifi and a Blackberry Playbook are a wonderful bus journey team) and head over to Montevideo (the capital 2.5hrs away) for a brief bus transition that had the potential to go a little askew with my lack of spanish but I pulled it together and boarded the correct next bus for (2.5hrs) Puerto del Este, which is the beach resort many people from Argentina and Brazil visit.  Kinda reminds me of Miami Beach for South America. Met back up with the Aussie etc crew and am planning on heading to the beach for a bit.

Enjoy the day!

  1. Strange that the steak sandwich you posted was for me b/c I can honestly say that about 4 hours ago I was deeply craving a steak - ask baby daddy J - he will vouch for it. Very strange indeed! Loving the picts, esp the grafitti - always wanted to try it without getting caught that is....keep them picts acomin'.
